Improper Conduct (Chicago Heat)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Harlequin (September, 2002)
Author: Patricia Rosemoor
Average review score:

More than meets the eye...
This was the BEST Blaze novel I have read to date! The story was not as frustratingly predictable as romances usually tend to be, and there was a great undercurrent of mystery and suspense throughout the tale. However, Rosemoor did not disappoint in her exquisite sexual description.

This book was the perfect way to both get the reader hot and thinking at the same exact time!!! A DEFINITE TEN!!!

Deftly traces Native American lifestyle and societal changes
Indian Metropolis: Native Americans In Chicago, 1945-75 by James B. LaGrand (Assistant Professor, Department of History, Messiah College, Grantham, Pennsylvania) is a thoughtful and scholarly perspective on the urbanization of Native Americans. Focusing on the mass exodus of Native Americans from their reservations into the urban city of Chicago, in the three decades following the end of World War II, Indian Metropolis deftly traces Native American lifestyle and societal changes in this intriguing, evenhanded, and highly recommended sociological treatise. Indian Metropolis is a seminal contribution to Native American Studies reference collections and reading lists.

Jim Moran, the courtesy man : inside the heart of one of the most successful marketers in the automobile industry
Published in Unknown Binding by Bonus Books ()
Author: Jim Moran
Average review score:

Hope for Corporate America!
The Jim Moran: The Courtesy Man chronicles the life experience of one of Corporate America's unsung heroes, James M. Moran. From humble beginnings, Jim Moran built a multi billion dollar automotive empire from his shear will, determination and commitment to doing the right thing by those who trust him.
Follow Mr. Moran through his incredible journey from a one man gas station operation, to building the most successful Ford franchise in history by becoming Chicago's answer to Ed Sullivan, to the verge of death after the "good old boy" Ford management eliminated his dealership, to the unparalleled success Mr. Moran enjoys today through his long standing relationship with Toyota and his commitment to JM Family Enterprises and its associates.
This book provides an entertaining and enjoyable read and is an inspirational testament to the spirit of the American Dream.
It is my fondest hope that the business philosophy described in this book captures the attention and imagination of America's Corporate Elite (replacing such revered drivel espoused by the likes of corporate scum like Jack Welsh, who in my opinion should have titled his book: "From the Colon").

The Journey to Peace: Reflections on Faith, Embracing Suffering, and Finding New Life
Published in Hardcover by Doubleday (20 February, 2001)
Authors: Joseph, Cardinal Bernardin, Alphonse, P., C.Pp.S. Spilly, and Jeremy Langford
Average review score:

Terrific companion to 'The Gift of Peace'
Whatever your exposure to the late Cardinal, you must admire his example of the Christian life. In the Gift of Peace, he invited us to walk beside him during his final months. In this volume, Spilly & Langford have artfully woven together extended excerpts from his homilies while Archbishop of Chicago. The book is divided into chapters identified by the Stations of the Cross -- a device that both illuminates the Cardinal's own words, as well as the putting the Way of the Cross into a contemporary context, thus reminding us that the Cross itself is as real today as it was two thousand years ago.

If you loved Cardinal Bernadin as we in Chicago did, you will of course love this book. But even if this is your first encounter, you will come to know him like a dear friend -- and learn much from his humility, his prayerfulness, his humiliation and exoneration, and his very public suffering and passing.

The Jungle (Norton Critical Editions)
Published in Paperback by W.W. Norton & Company (November, 2002)
Authors: Upton Sinclair and Clare Virginia Eby
Average review score:

Pablos review of The Jungle
Did you ever want to read a book that revolutionized the food industries' laws, and at the same time reformed workers rights? Well then, The Jungle is the book for you. It is a wonderful tale about an immigrant family who just moved to Chicago, and shows their struggle in life just to survive in the miserable stockyards. Upton Sinclair, the author of this wonderful novel has a very unique style of writing that separates his book from all the others. His descriptive wrting and his use of symbolism make this story truely different. His overall mood is one of social protest, because the author wants changes in laws. The tone of Upton Sinclair is also very unique, he also tries to persuade you to his views on socialism and how bad some parts of the American government are. So, if you want to read book that will curdle your stomach and changes your views on equality, read The Jungle.

Kenneth Josephson: A Retrospective
Published in Paperback by Art Institute of Chicago Museum (October, 1999)
Authors: Kenneth Josephson, Sylvia Wolf, Stephanie Lipscomb, Art Institute of Chicago, and James N. Wood
Average review score:

Poignant and Interesting Black and White Photography
Kenneth Josephson's Retrospective is a phenomenal view of life through the artistic eye of black and white photography. Josephson's pictures-within-pictures are interesting and fresh, a new take on a theme that others have tried, but not mastered as well as Josephson. If you like black and white photography, this book is a must. I saw the exhibit at the Whitney in NYC, and purchased the book afterwards. Unlike some photography books, where the pages don't capture the magic imparted by the prints when seen in person, this one does -- beautifully.
